Vicsek Model — Collective Flocking Phase Transition

Self-propelled particles align with neighbors; tuning noise drives an order-disorder phase transition unique to active matter.

Vicsek et al. (1995) showed this model exhibits a discontinuous flocking transition. The order parameter φ = |⟨e^{iθ}⟩| measures collective alignment. Low noise → bands and polar order; high noise → disordered gas.
