Multifractal energy dissipation and anomalous scaling exponents

Kolmogorov's 1941 theory predicts ζ_p = p/3 for structure function exponents. Turbulent intermittency (Obukhov 1962, She-Lévêque 1994) causes anomalous deviations: the log-Poisson model gives ζ_p = p/9 + 2(1−(2/3)^{p/3}). A random multiplicative cascade with lognormal weights μ generates multifractal dissipation fields with observed fat-tailed velocity gradient distributions.
