In tropical algebra, + becomes min and × becomes +. A tropical polynomial f(x) = min(a₀, a₁+x, a₂+2x, …) is piecewise linear. Its "roots" are breakpoints where two monomials tie for the minimum — these form the tropical variety, a polyhedral complex.
