Kink-Antikink Collision

In φ⁴ field theory, kinks are topological solitons: φ(x,t) = tanh((x−vt)/√2). A kink and antikink carry opposite topological charge. When they collide, they may annihilate, creating a burst of radiation, or bounce at low velocities.
