Topological Thouless Pump — Rice-Mele Model

The Rice-Mele model is a 1D tight-binding chain with staggered hopping and staggered onsite potential. Under adiabatic cyclic variation of parameters, exactly one electron per unit cell is pumped per cycle — a topological invariant (Chern number = 1). This is the 1D analog of the quantum Hall effect, and underlies modern topological charge pumping experiments with ultracold atoms.
