Magnetic skyrmions are topologically protected spin textures in chiral magnets.
The spin field n(r) wraps the unit sphere exactly once: Q = (1/4π)∫ n·(∂ₓn × ∂ᵧn) d²r = ±1.
Stabilized by Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) from broken inversion symmetry.
Helicity γ determines DMI type (Bloch γ=0/π, Néel γ=π/2). Arrow colors encode out-of-plane Sz.
