Regular and semi-regular tilings of the plane
There are exactly 3 regular and 8 Archimedean (semi-regular) tessellations of the Euclidean plane. Penrose tilings are aperiodic — they tile the plane without repeating, with 5-fold symmetry forbidden in periodic lattices.
