Stochastic Resonance — FitzHugh-Nagumo Neuron

A subthreshold periodic signal drives a FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron. Without noise: silence. Too much noise: random firing. At an optimal noise level, stochastic resonance occurs — the noise helps transmit the signal most faithfully. The SNR curve peaks at this sweet spot.
