Cahn-Hilliard (1958): After a rapid quench (ε > 0), a homogeneous mixture becomes thermodynamically unstable. Dominant wavelength: k* = √(ε/2). Phase separation proceeds via coarsening (Ostwald ripening): larger domains grow at expense of smaller ones. Fourier ring in k-space shows the spinodal ring at |k| = k*.
