The Hahn echo: a 90° pulse tips magnetization into the xy-plane. Spins at different Larmor frequencies dephase (fan out). A 180° refocusing pulse reverses the phase, and spins rephase — producing an echo. T2* controls dephasing; T2 controls true decoherence.
