Skyrmion Magnetic Topological Texture

Topologically protected spin textures in chiral magnets — winding number Q = ±1 vortex-like structures visualized with spin orientation field.

Topological Charge
Q = -1

Winding Number
W = 1

Skyrmions are protected by topology — cannot be continuously deformed to uniform state without energy barrier.
Topological Texture: Skyrmions are particle-like magnetic configurations described by the topological charge Q = (1/4π)∫(m · ∂ₓm × ∂ᵧm) d²r. Integer Q = ±1 means the spin field wraps the sphere exactly once. Stabilized by Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in chiral magnets or broken-inversion-symmetry interfaces. Arrow color encodes out-of-plane component (blue = down, red = up).
