Abelian Sandpile — Toppling Waves

The Abelian sandpile model: each cell holds grains; when ≥4 grains accumulate, the cell topples — loses 4 grains and each neighbor gains 1. Toppling waves propagate outward in concentric rings. The model is abelian: order of toppling does not affect the final stable configuration. Colors track toppling step (wave front generation), revealing fractal self-similar patterns.
