Abelian sandpile: each cell holds grains. When a cell reaches threshold (≥4), it topples: loses 4 grains, each neighbor gains 1. Toppling cascades create avalanches. The system self-organizes to a critical state where avalanche sizes follow a power law P(s) ∝ s−τ (τ ≈ 1.2). No parameter tuning needed — SOC emerges naturally.
