Sandpile Avalanches — Power Law (Bak, Tang, Wiesenfeld 1987)

Add sand grains one by one. When a cell exceeds threshold z_c = 4, it topples — redistributing grains to neighbors. Avalanche sizes follow a power law P(s) ~ s⁻¹·⁵, the hallmark of self-organized criticality.
