Experiment
Sand dune self-organization
Wind picks up sand grains through saltation — hopping along the surface — and deposits them in wind shadows behind ridges. Start with random perturbations on flat terrain and watch barchan crescents and transverse ridges emerge from nothing but wind, gravity, and the angle of repose.
