About: The FitzHugh-Nagumo model is a simplified version of the Hodgkin-Huxley neuron model, describing excitable media like cardiac tissue. The fast variable v (membrane potential) and slow recovery variable w interact via: dv/dt = v−v³/3−w+I+D∇²v, dw/dt = ε(v+a−bw). With spatial diffusion, this produces beautiful rotating spiral waves (resembling cardiac arrhythmias) and target waves. The diffusion term is computed via a discrete Laplacian with no-flux boundaries.
