Rayleigh-Taylor Instability

Heavy fluid (dense) resting on top of light fluid in a gravitational field. Small interface perturbations grow exponentially with rate γ = √(Atg·k) where At = (ρ₂−ρ₁)/(ρ₂+ρ₁) is the Atwood number. Fingers of heavy fluid plunge down; bubbles of light fluid rise.
