A double-barrier creates a quantum well between two tunnel barriers. At specific resonance energies matching quasi-bound states in the well, the transmission approaches T = 1 (perfect transmission despite classically-forbidden barriers). The transfer matrix method: M = M_barrier · M_well · M_barrier, with T = |M₁₁|⁻². This is the principle behind resonant tunneling diodes (Esaki & Tsu 1970).
