Frustrated kagome antiferromagnet — fractionalized spinons, no order

The kagome Heisenberg antiferromagnet (J₁>0) is massively frustrated — each triangle cannot satisfy all three bonds simultaneously, yielding O(N) degenerate ground states. Quantum fluctuations select a resonating valence bond (RVB) state: a quantum spin liquid with Z₂ topological order, fractionalized S=½ spinons, and gapped visons. The diffuse structure factor S(k) (no Bragg peaks) is the experimental signature.
