Quantum Hall Edge States

In a strong magnetic field, bulk Landau levels are gapped — but chiral edge states conduct perfectly along the boundary. Each filled Landau level contributes one edge channel. The Hall conductance is exactly σ_xy = νe²/h.

σ_xy = νe²/h  |  E_n = ℏω_c(n + ½)  |  ω_c = eB/m*
