Coulomb Blockade — Single-Electron Tunneling in a Quantum Dot

Dot electrons: N = 0 Charging energy: Ec = — Conductance: G = — kT = —
Coulomb blockade: adding a single electron to a quantum dot costs charging energy Ec = e²/2C. Conductance peaks appear when the dot energy level aligns with the Fermi level (degeneracy points). At low T, current is completely blocked between peaks.
