Polymer Translocation Through a Nanopore

A polymer driven by voltage through a nanopore undergoes a non-equilibrium process. Translocation time scales as τ ~ N^α where α ≈ 1+ν (ν ≈ 0.588 in 3D). Watch monomers thread through the pore under bias.

Kasianowicz et al. (1996) showed single-stranded DNA threads through α-hemolysin pores. Scaling: τ ~ N^(1+ν) with anomalous diffusion; driven case ~N^2/F at strong bias.
