In the Holstein model, electron-phonon coupling g dresses the electron with a phonon cloud, creating a polaron. The effective mass diverges and bandwidth narrows as Z = exp(−g²/ω₀²), interpolating between free electron (g→0) and self-trapped small polaron (g→∞).
