Roger Penrose (1974): aperiodic tiling with 5-fold symmetry using just two tile shapes. The ratio of large to small tiles equals φ (golden ratio ≈ 1.618). Quasicrystals discovered by Shechtman in 1984 (Nobel 2011) have this structure.
