Mechanical Orrery

An orrery is a mechanical model of the solar system, first built in the early 18th century. Intricate gear trains drive each planet at its correct orbital period relative to Earth. This simulation shows the four inner planets — Mercury, Venus, Earth (with Moon), and Mars — rendered in a brass aesthetic reminiscent of the original clockwork mechanisms. Kepler's third law governs the relationship between orbital radius and period.
