Exceptional Points — Non-Hermitian Degeneracy

In non-Hermitian systems, eigenvalues can collide at exceptional points (EPs) where both eigenvalues AND eigenvectors coalesce. Near an EP, the eigenvalue splitting scales as √(ε) — the square-root topology — which gives extreme sensitivity to perturbations, exploited in EP-enhanced sensing.
