Mixed-Mode Oscillations & Canard Explosion

The van der Pol–Bonhoeffer–van der Pol system near a folded-node singularity produces mixed-mode oscillations (MMOs): patterns of large-amplitude spikes interspersed with small subthreshold oscillations. At the canard point, orbits follow the unstable slow manifold before explosive excursion.
