Driven lattice gas (Katz-Lebowitz-Spohn 1984): particles hop on a 2D lattice with Metropolis rates modified by an external field E in the x-direction. The nonequilibrium stationary state (NESS) carries a persistent probability current J and has entropy production σ = J·E/T > 0. Contrast with equilibrium (E=0) where detailed balance holds.
