Wilson-Cowan equations describe coupled excitatory (E) and inhibitory (I) neural populations: τ dE/dt = −E + S(wEE·E + wEI·I + P), τ dI/dt = −I + S(wIE·E + wII·I). Depending on coupling strengths, dynamics settle to fixed point, limit cycle (alpha ~10Hz), or saturated state.
