Network Motif Census

Network motifs are subgraph patterns that appear significantly more (or less) than expected in a random Erdős–Rényi graph with the same n and p. The Z-score = (observed − expected) / σ reveals over- or under-represented structures — key to understanding real-world network function.

Colors: green = over-represented (Z > 2), red = under-represented (Z < −2), gray = expected. Theoretical expected counts computed analytically for ER(n,p).
