Mott Insulator — Hubbard Gap & Doublon-Holon Dynamics

In the Mott-Hubbard model, strong electron-electron repulsion U prevents hopping and creates an insulating gap — even when band theory predicts a metal. Excitations are doublons (doubly-occupied sites) and holons (empty sites). This 1D visualization shows the Mott transition as U/t increases and doublon-holon pair dynamics.
