Topological spin texture stabilized by Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction
A magnetic skyrmion is a topological soliton in a chiral magnet, stabilized by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction D(S_i × S_j)·êij which competes with Heisenberg exchange JS_i·S_j. The topological charge Q = (1/4π)∫S·(∂xS × ∂yS)dxdy takes integer values. Shown: spin texture with color = S_z, arrows = (S_x, S_y).
