Magnetic skyrmions are topologically protected spin textures with integer winding number Q = ∫(m·∂ₓm×∂ᵧm)dA/4π. The Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (DMI) stabilizes these nanoscale vortices in chiral magnets, with applications in spintronics.
