The physical system Lorenz discovered that produces chaotic dynamics. Water pours onto a wheel with leaky cups. At low flow, it sits still. At medium flow, it rotates steadily. At high flow — chaos. The wheel reverses direction unpredictably, and the Lorenz attractor emerges.
