Kitaev Chain — Majorana Zero Modes

Topological superconductor with edge Majorana modes (|μ| < 2t = topological phase)

The Kitaev chain is a 1D p-wave superconductor. When |μ| < 2t, it enters a topological phase hosting unpaired Majorana zero modes at the ends — shown as cyan/magenta exponentially decaying wavefunctions. Majoranas are their own antiparticles and are candidates for topological quantum computing.
