Glassy systems have rugged energy landscapes with many metastable minima separated by barriers.
At low T, particles get trapped in local minima — the cage effect. MSD shows a plateau (β-relaxation)
before eventual α-relaxation. Aging: the longer you wait, the slower the dynamics become.
