Fibonacci Phyllotaxis
Golden angle spiral growth · sunflower seeds · plant spirals
Plants grow florets sequentially, each rotated by the golden angle φ = 360°(1−1/φ) ≈ 137.508°. This irrational angle ensures each seed is never aligned with any previous one, maximizing packing efficiency. The emergent double spirals (clockwise and counter-clockwise) always count consecutive Fibonacci numbers: 13 and 21, 34 and 55, etc.
