Hubbell's Unified Neutral Theory of Biodiversity

The neutral theory (Hubbell 2001) assumes all species are ecologically equivalent — community dynamics driven by ecological drift, speciation, and immigration. Despite no niche differentiation, it predicts the observed log-series / log-normal species abundance distributions.

Parameters

Run simulation...
Metacomm: log-series P(n)∝θ·xⁿ/n
x = J_M/(J_M+θ) (Ewens sampling)
Local: Etienne's sampling formula
w/ immigration I = mJ/(1-m)
Rank-abund: Fisher's α ≈ θ
Preston's veil: sampling truncation
SAD peaks at log-normal for I≫1
