Self-organized criticality in a spring-block seismicity model
The Olami-Feder-Christensen (OFC) model is a spring-block earthquake model on a 2D lattice. Each block has a stress F; when F ≥ 1 it slips, transferring αF to its 4 neighbors. The non-conservative case (4α < 1) exhibits self-organized criticality (SOC), producing power-law Gutenberg-Richter magnitude distributions without tuning any parameter.
