Double-Slit Experiment

Quantum interference — one photon at a time builds the pattern

Experiment

Photons: 0
Fringe spacing:

Each photon lands according to the intensity pattern I(θ) = I₀ cos²(πd sinθ/λ) · sinc²(πa sinθ/λ).

With "which-way" information (decoherence), interference vanishes — the fringes wash out, leaving a single-slit diffraction envelope.
