Disordered Spin Glass — Energy Landscape

Simulated annealing through a rugged free-energy landscape

A spin glass has random ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic couplings Jij drawn from ±1. The energy landscape is exponentially rugged with many local minima — frustration prevents any spin from satisfying all its neighbors simultaneously. Simulated annealing slowly reduces temperature, escaping local traps to find low-energy configurations.
