Off-Lattice Diffusion-Limited Aggregation

Fractal cluster growth via random walk aggregation — no lattice bias

Cluster size: 1 Cluster radius: 0px Fractal dim D: -
About: Diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) produces fractal structures when randomly diffusing particles stick upon contact with a growing cluster. The off-lattice version avoids the anisotropy artifacts of grid-based models. The resulting fractal has dimension D ≈ 1.71 in 2D (Witten & Sander 1981). Branches form because interior sites are rarely reached by random walkers — a consequence of harmonic measure concentration at tips.
