Colloidal Gel — Arrested Phase Separation

Colloidal gels form when short-range attractions cause spinodal decomposition but glass transition arrests the dense phase before it can fully coarsen. The result is a space-spanning fractal network (d_f ≈ 2.0–2.5) that supports stress. ε/kT > 3 and low φ are typical gel conditions.
