Circadian Oscillator Network
The Goodwin oscillator — a transcription-translation feedback loop — models the ~24-hour biological clock found in nearly all life forms.
Time: 0 h
Period: ~24 h
Synchrony: -
Each cell contains the Goodwin 3-variable oscillator: mRNA (M) → Protein (P) → Clock product (X) → inhibits M. Hill kinetics with coefficient n≥3 are needed for oscillation. Cells couple through their X concentrations. Light (zeitgeber) resets the phase. The left panel shows network state; right panel shows time series.
