CELLULAR POTTS MODEL

Cell Sorting & Differential Adhesion

The Cellular Potts Model (Glazier-Graner 1992) simulates cell morphology via energy minimization. Each cell minimizes surface tension and volume deviation. Steinberg's differential adhesion hypothesis: cells sort by adhesion strength — high-affinity cells cluster together, exactly like immiscible liquids.

CPM PARAMETERS

MCS: 0
Science: Hamiltonian: H = ΣJ(τ,τ')(1-δ(σ,σ')) + Σλ(v-V₀)². Metropolis acceptance: ΔH<0 always accept; else p=exp(-ΔH/kT). High A-B adhesion → cells segregate. This models gastrulation, tumor invasion, and organoid formation.
