Cellular Automaton — Totalistic Rule Space

Outer totalistic 1D CAs: the next state of a cell depends only on its current state and the SUM of its neighbors. With k states and radius r=1, the neighborhood sum ranges 0–2k, giving k^(2k+1) rules. Wolfram's Class I–IV behavior spans the edge of chaos.
