Random Boolean networks exhibit ordered, critical, and chaotic phases

Click "Run All ICs" to find attractors
A Kauffman NK network has N binary nodes each connected to K random inputs with a random Boolean function. At K=2 (critical) the mean attractor length ~ √N. K<2 → frozen ordered phase (few short attractors); K>2 → chaotic phase (exponentially many long cycles). Attractors are the "cell types" of genetic regulatory networks.
