Cusp Catastrophe — Normal Form Bifurcation

The cusp catastrophe describes equilibria of V(x) = x⁴/4 + ax²/2 + bx. Equilibria satisfy x³ + ax + b = 0. On the cusp surface (right), moving (a,b) across the fold causes sudden jumps in x (left potential well). Click the (a,b) plane to set parameters.
