A bundle of N fibers, each with a random failure threshold. Applied load is redistributed to intact fibers when one breaks. This triggers avalanches: cascades of failures. Near the critical load, avalanche sizes follow a power law P(s) ~ s⁻⁵/² (mean-field universality).
