Pressure, temperature, and density across atmospheric layers
The International Standard Atmosphere (ISA) models Earth's atmosphere as layers with different temperature lapse rates. Pressure follows the barometric formula: hydrostatic equilibrium dp/dz = -ρg. Temperature inversions in the stratosphere are caused by ozone absorbing UV radiation — this stratification inhibits vertical mixing.
